The Wayfarer
You go to see what’s there.
What it is
The next world is the one you want. A new place, or a kind of game you’ve never tried: that’s the pull, more than finishing anything. Your library is wide because you keep saying yes, and the next one is already waiting.
How it plays
- You start more games than you finish, and you’re fine with that.
- You’ll try a genre you’ve never liked if a friend says one game does it right.
- The game picks the platform. You own more than one system for that reason.
- The first ten hours of anything are your favorite hours.
- You can say what a game feels like after one evening with it.
How we read it
- Lots of games played, not just owned.
- Many kinds of games, across genres that don’t usually share a shelf.
- Hours spread wide instead of piled into one title, and more than one system.
Your class is read from your own record, and it changes as the record changes. Seven questions on the front door give a first reading; your games get the last word.
Strengths
- You know what’s out there. Friends ask you what to play next, and you have an answer.
- No genre scares you off. You’ve already tried it.
- You notice what makes a game different, because you’ve seen so many.
Weaknesses
- The backlog is the real game.
- You’ve put down the best game of your life at least twice, ten hours in.
- “Finished” is a word other people use.
With the other classes
- The Ascendant: The Wayfarer starts ten, the Ascendant finishes one. Trade lists: one knows what’s out there, the other knows what’s in it.
- The Lorekeeper: The Wayfarer brings new worlds, the Lorekeeper stays in one long enough to see its story. Each makes the other a better player.
- The Tactician: The Wayfarer plays the first ten hours, the Tactician the next hundred. On a new game, one says if it’s fun and the other says if it’s deep.
- The Champion: The Champion wants a rival who shows up every night. The Wayfarer shows up once, has a great time, and is gone by Friday.
- The Builder: The Builder makes a place and the Wayfarer is the first through the gate. One has a server, the other has a reason to finish the walls.
- The Resident: Opposites. The Resident has lived in one game for years, the Wayfarer hasn’t stayed a month anywhere. The Wayfarer will keep suggesting a new one. The Resident will keep saying maybe.
Games that lean this way

The road
On Home, your road points somewhere you haven’t been: a kind of game your record doesn’t have yet, with the count of kinds you’ve played so far. The quest is to play something outside your usual genres.
Find yours

The other six
- The Ascendant: The credits are the halfway point.
- The Lorekeeper: You play for the story.
- The Tactician: You’d rather understand a game than beat it.
- The Champion: You play to win, and a loss sends you back in.
- The Builder: You leave something behind that wasn’t there before.
- The Resident: You stay long after everyone else has moved on.
