The Resident
You stay long after everyone else has moved on.
What it is
Most of your hours live in one or two games. You know the seasons, and the unwritten rules of the people who play with you. Other people log in. You come home.
How it plays
- One game has more of your hours than the next ten combined.
- You’ve seen the same world through several years of updates.
- A new game has to earn an evening away from the old one.
- You go back after months away, and it still feels like yours.
- The people you play with matter as much as the game.
How we read it
- One game with far more hours than any other.
- Most of your hours in your top few games.
- Hundreds of hours in a single title.
Your class is read from your own record, and it changes as the record changes. Seven questions on the front door give a first reading; your games get the last word.
Strengths
- Depth. You know one game better than most people know anything.
- Loyalty. The game, and the people in it, can count on you.
- You don’t chase. You’ve already found it.
Weaknesses
- Your backlog is a graveyard of good intentions.
- You’ve said “I’ll try it after this season” for three seasons.
- Friends have stopped recommending games to you. Your answer is always the same.
With the other classes
- The Ascendant: The Resident goes deep in one game, the Ascendant goes complete across many. They’ll argue about which is the real way to know a game, and both have a case.
- The Wayfarer: Opposites. The Resident has lived in one game for years, the Wayfarer hasn’t stayed a month anywhere. The Wayfarer will keep suggesting a new one. The Resident will keep saying maybe.
- The Lorekeeper: Both stay. The Resident stays in one world, the Lorekeeper stays until the story is done. They’ll both tell you about a game from 2014 like it was yesterday.
- The Tactician: The Resident has a thousand hours in the game, the Tactician has read every patch note about it. One knows what works and one knows why.
- The Champion: Often the same player a few years apart. When they share a game, the Resident knows the map and the Champion knows the meta.
- The Builder: Both put hundreds of hours into one place: the Builder to make something, the Resident to stay. The house the Resident lives in was probably a Builder’s.

The road
On Home, your road is the game that’s home, with its hours. The quest is to go back to an old favorite: a world you haven’t opened in a while.

The other six
- The Ascendant: The credits are the halfway point.
- The Wayfarer: You go to see what’s there.
- The Lorekeeper: You play for the story.
- The Tactician: You’d rather understand a game than beat it.
- The Champion: You play to win, and a loss sends you back in.
- The Builder: You leave something behind that wasn’t there before.
